Online vs In Person Doula Training in the UK: What’s right for you?
If you’re looking at doula training in the UK, you’ll see a lot of opinions online about what you should do and how you should do it. I’ve written this blog to help you choose which training might work best for you, to help you make a decision when it comes to our training and also just your Doula training in general.
At The Perinatal Academy we offer three ways to train:
Online doula training with immediate access and ongoing mentorship
Four day immersive doula training in London.
Four day immersive doula training in central Manchester, which is our next course, beginning on Monday 11th May.
I’m going to talk you through each one, what it’s like, and who it tends to suit.
Our online training is super engaging
Online doula training with one in person day in London:
This option is for you if you want flexibility, and you want time to process what you’re learning as you go. A lot of people choose online because they’re fitting this around work, kids, caring responsibilities, shifts, or just a busy life! It is also instant access so you can start the your journey immediately rather than waiting for dates!
Online learning gives you space to take in something big, sit with it, and come back with questions once it’s landed. That’s a really useful way to learn doula work, because it’s not just facts you take in and learn. It’s a mindset really. And that shift of thinking can take a bit of time.
Our online learning isn’t however completely isolated, we offer weekly group check ins and you will have a mentor alongside you to help you move through the course and gain your accreditation. This is amazing as it means when you have a question when watching you can ask us in real time and get a response. You are part of our Doula fam as soon as you sign up, and given loads of support immediately!
Online is usually a great fit if you want training you can weave into your life, and you like learning in smaller chunks rather than doing everything in one go.
It can also be the best option if you’re not super close to London or Manchester and you want a strong doula training UK route without lots of travel or the expenses that come with that.
Our Doula Training in London last November
Four day immersive doula training in London or Manchester:
Immersive training is for you if you want to step away from normal life for a few days and focus. It’s four days in person, with a group, and there’s something powerful about that. You’re learning, practising, talking things through, and you’re not trying to fit it in around everything else.
You also get the informal learning that happens naturally in a room. The conversations over lunch. The way you practise and get feedback in real time. The oxytocin!
A simple way to decide:
If you want flexibility, constant mentorship and to start immediately choose online
If you want to immerse, learn in a room, and build momentum quickly, choose a four day immersive.
