3 things to avoid when launching your antenatal business

Starting your antenatal business is such an exciting step! You’re choosing a path that supports new parents at a time when they need it most and that’s incredibly fulfilling work. But getting off on the right foot can make all the difference, so here are the top three mistakes people often make when launching an antenatal business and how you can avoid them, so you can start strong and build a business you love! Whoop!

Mistake 1: Trying to Be All Things to All People
When you’re first starting out, it’s natural to want to help everyone and offer everything. After all, there are so many ways to support parents, from antenatal education to postnatal support, hypnobirthing, and beyond! Trying to cover too much ground all at once can leave you feeling stretched thin and make it harder for clients to connect with you, or really understand what you are all about.

The Fix:
Start by focusing on one or two core services that align with your strengths and passions. Not only does this make it easier to build expertise in your chosen area, but it also allows you to connect more deeply with the clients who need exactly what you offer. Once you feel grounded in your initial offerings, you can always expand as your business grows

Mistake 2: Skipping Out on the Marketing Basics
One of the biggest misconceptions about starting an antenatal business is that clients will just find you, especially if you’re active on social media. But social media alone isn’t always enough. Consistency and visibility are key to building a steady, trusting client base.

The Fix:
Take some time to understand who your ideal client is. What are they looking for? What concerns do they have? Then, create content that speaks directly to them and addresses their needs. Building relationships takes time, so focus on consistency—whether it’s a weekly post, a monthly newsletter, or simply engaging with your followers. The goal is to show up regularly and authentically so parents feel they know and trust you. Also NETWORK LIKE MAD in your community, there are other people/businesses out there that share the same client base as you - pregnant people! So arrange coffees with your yoga instructors, scan clinics, lactation consultants, independent midwives and see how you can work together in your area

Mistake 3: Underestimating Your Own Worth
This is a BIG one, and it’s incredibly common! So many new business owners feel hesitant to set rates or feel nervous about charging a rate that reflects their real value. But remember: the support you’re offering to parents is valuable, and charging appropriately allows you to sustainably support your clients and yourself.

The Fix:
When setting your rates, consider the time, expertise, and unique value you bring to your clients. You’re helping parents feel more prepared, more supported, and more empowered—and that is absolutely worth paying for. Be confident in your worth, and know that setting fair rates is a form of self-care that benefits you and your clients.
